Senior Propulsion Design Engineer – X‑BAT UAV

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a senior propulsion design engineer to lead the development of propulsion hardware for the X‑BAT UAV, a next‑generation low‑bypass turbofan platform. The role covers the full lifecycle from concept layout through production release, test support and flight operations.

Key responsibilities

• Own design and release of propulsion hardware for engine, fuel, oil and bleed‑air systems.
• Develop and maintain Siemens NX CAD models, drawings and assemblies with proper GD&T.
• Translate propulsion architecture into manufacturable, testable and flight‑ready components.
• Work directly with machine shops, production teams and technicians to resolve non‑conformances and drive iterative improvements.
• Support test campaigns by providing hardware design support, instrumentation accommodation and rapid iteration.
• Apply engineering analysis (hand calculations, ANSYS, FEA, GFSSP, REFPROP) for sizing, load cases and validation.
• Manage configuration, BOM control and change processes using Teamcenter or equivalent PLM.
• Participate in design reviews, interface control efforts and root‑cause investigations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of aerospace hardware design experience, preferably on propulsion systems.
• Hands‑on experience working with production, technicians and machine shops to resolve build issues.
• U.S. citizenship or ability to comply with ITAR requirements.
• Ability to obtain a S//SAR level security clearance (desired).

Required skills

• Siemens NX CAD modeling and drawing creation.
• Strong application of GD&T.
• Proficiency with ANSYS, FEA and related analysis tools.
• Experience with GFSSP and REFPROP for propulsion analysis.
• Hand calculations and engineering judgment for design validation.
• Configuration management and BOM control using Teamcenter PLM.
• Python scripting for design automation or data processing.
