Senior Programme Officer

About the role
The Senior Programme Officer supports the implementation of UN General Assembly resolution 80/251 within the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit of the Executive Office of the Secretary‑General (EOSG). Reporting to the Director of the unit and the Deputy, the incumbent works closely with the Under‑Secretary‑General for Policy and senior EOSG officials to advance the UN80 Initiative.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate EOSG activities for the implementation of resolution 80/251, fulfilling tasks requested by the Secretary‑General.
- Facilitate cross‑entity consultations across the UN Secretariat and system to deliver on resolution‑related outputs.
- Provide substantive support to the Ad Hoc Working Group on Mandate Implementation Review, including briefing materials, road maps, analytical notes and follow‑up to Member State requests.
- Coordinate preparation of draft written outputs for the Secretary‑General, reviewing mandated reports and advising on system‑wide coordination.
- Offer advice on General Assembly processes, intergovernmental working methods, programme planning, budget implications and UN reform.
- Support development and promotion of the mandate registry, digital tools, portals and guidance products, ensuring common standards.
- Enhance reporting on mandate implementation through focused initiatives.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in a relevant field (e.g., international relations, public policy, law).
- Significant experience within the United Nations system or comparable international organization.
- Strong analytical, drafting and coordination skills, with ability to prepare high‑level briefing materials.
- In‑depth knowledge of UN General Assembly procedures and intergovernmental working methods.
- Proven ability to work in a matrix environment and engage with diverse stakeholders.
