Senior Process Design Engineer

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Senior Process Design Engineer to join the Engineering team supporting the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) at NASA Langley Research Center. The position reports directly to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering and involves process system design projects that span multiple disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Independently prepare requirements, computations and analyses, specifications, drawings, cost estimates and technical reports for process system designs
• Select and apply engineering techniques to analyse and evaluate complex problems
• Oversight of designers and drafters designing NASA facility mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with codes, standards and customer requirements
• Provide technical quality reviews and ensure adherence to quality control processes and codes and standards
• Support team building and employee engagement

Required profile

• US citizenship required; valid Real ID and a valid driver's license
• ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering (mechanical engineering technology degrees do not qualify)
• 10 to 15 years of direct experience in process engineering design, including process systems for high-pressure air and high-pressure steam
• Experience with P&ID development, flexibility analysis, pressure drop calculations, relief and control valves, heat exchangers, pumps, steam and condensate systems, ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping, and certified material test reports
• Excellent communication skills, proactive problem solver and team player
• Office environment (80%), with occasional travel between facilities and limited time on construction sites (20%); must be able to walk, stand, climb and lift up to 35 lbs
• Regular attendance mandatory; overtime outside normal hours required 5-20%
