Senior Principal Software Engineer - Reliability Engineering (Remote)

About the role

The Home Depot is looking for a Senior Principal Software Engineer in Reliability Engineering, working remotely. The role is the strategic force behind the stability of the store systems, payments and COM platform, focusing on designing resilience into core infrastructure rather than just patching problems. It guides software design and development across multiple engineering teams and principal engineers, supports 4-6 development teams, and acts as a key contact for vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead portfolio-level principal meetings, create reusable foundational code, develop POCs with new technologies and track cloud resource usage to drive cost reductions.
• Escalate complex challenges, present at conferences, mentor and coach direct reports, run annual and mid-year reviews, and attract and retain top talent.
• Work with a Distinguished Engineer on technology solutions, shape technology roadmaps, remove bottlenecks and influence innovation.
• Act as escalation point for high-priority issues and outages, field questions from project, product and support teams, resolve technology disputes, work with vendors on feature enhancements and evangelize tooling.

Required profile

• At least 7 years of relevant work experience; preferred 7-9 years.
• Legal permission to work in the United States; must be 18 or older.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Preferred: 5 years of previous leadership experience, active participation in or leadership of professional groups, and mastery of assigned domains.

Required skills

• Expertise in at least two technologies used by The Home Depot IT.
• Experience with common retail business processes.
• Experience in Agile/Lean development environments.
• Preferred: programming language expertise.
