Senior Principal Software Engineer - Generative AI & Mobile Platforms (Remote)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Senior Principal Software Engineer to lead its Mobile App Renovation Strategy (MARS) as chief technical architect and visionary leader. The role defines the future of a high-performance, modular, intelligent mobile ecosystem and champions AI-first software development. It reports to senior technology leadership, leads cross-functional feature and platform teams, and runs an AI Tiger Team that influences how engineering teams use AI across the SDLC. The position is remote.

Key responsibilities

• 50% Delivery and execution: lead portfolio-level principal meetings, architect reusable code foundations, develop POCs with new technologies, and monitor cloud resource usage to reduce costs.
• 10% People: act as escalation point for complex challenges, mentor and coach direct reports, run annual and mid-year reviews, and attract and retain top talent.
• 15% Strategy and planning: work with a Distinguished Engineer on open-source or vendor solutions, remove roadblocks, and shape technology roadmaps.
• 25% Support and enablement: handle high-priority issues and outages, resolve technology disputes, work with vendors on feature enhancements, and evangelize tooling.

Required profile

• 7 years of relevant work experience; preferred 10+ years, with at least 4+ years leading architecture for a major consumer-facing mobile app.
• Proven track record of a major technology renovation or modernization (preferably with SDUI, KMP and GraphQL BFF).
• Expert knowledge of microservices, server-side GraphQL patterns and high-performance JVM in-memory caching.
• Hands-on experience with GenAI APIs, LLM prompt engineering and code-generation tools.
• Ability to write technical white papers, present architecture to executives and align large engineering organizations (50+ engineers).
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; must be 18 and legally permitted to work in the United States.

Pay range for eligible states: $170,000 - $280,000. Typically requires overnight travel 5-20% of the time.
