Senior Power System Engineer – Hybrid, Irvine, CA

About the role

ETAP is looking for a senior power system engineer to join its Irvine, CA team. The role focuses on developing and enhancing simulation algorithms that power the company’s electrical digital‑twin platform, supporting customers throughout the design, operation and maintenance phases of their projects.

Key responsibilities

• Research, design, specify and prototype advanced power‑system algorithms and device models.
• Maintain and extend core simulation engines such as load‑flow, short‑circuit, harmonic and transient‑stability analyses.
• Implement high‑performance numerical methods in C++ and related languages.
• Collaborate with product managers, other engineering groups and customers to capture requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

Required profile

• PhD or MS in Power System Engineering, Electrical Machinery or a closely related field.
• Proven experience with modeling and analysis of power‑system load‑flow, dynamics, short‑circuit or stability engines.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with attention to detail and self‑management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• C++, Fortran, C# programming.
• Design of numerical methods and high‑performance software.
• Power‑system simulation tools: ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, PowerWorld, EMTP, PSCAD.
• Experience with unbalanced system modeling, electromagnetic transients and power electronics (desired).
