Senior ML Engineer (ML/AI)

About the role

Lyra Health, a provider of evidence-based mental health care, is looking for an experienced Senior AI/ML Engineer to lead the design, development and deployment of next-generation AI capabilities for its platform. The role bridges data science research and production-grade software engineering, integrating predictive analytics, NLP and Generative AI, and includes mentoring junior engineers and influencing the AI product roadmap.

Key responsibilities

• Design, train, fine-tune and evaluate deep learning, classical ML and foundational GenAI models (LLMs, diffusion models) to drive core product features.
• Build, scale and maintain ML pipelines for continuous training, evaluation and real-time/batch inference using modern MLOps frameworks.
• Integrate AI models into microservices with backend and frontend teams, ensuring low latency, high availability and efficient resource use.
• Architect scalable data pipelines for preprocessing, vectorizing and ingesting large structured and unstructured datasets.
• Implement evaluation frameworks for model alignment, bias mitigation, guardrailing and cost/latency optimization (e.g. quantization, distillation).
• Lead technically, review code thoroughly and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience deploying ML/AI solutions in production environments.
• Ability to write high-quality Python code.
• Experience building RAG-based solutions and setting up and maintaining vector databases.
• Strong desire to work on ML/AI products and to learn new technologies quickly.
• Good communication and organizational skills, able to balance quality and deadlines in fast-paced settings.

Preferred qualifications

• Protobuf messages, Docker and Kubernetes deployments.
• Relational and low-latency databases, Celery.
• Production code in Java/Kotlin.
• Cloud infrastructure, especially AWS, and handling highly sensitive healthcare data.
