Senior Medical Technologist – Blood Bank

About the role

The Department of Pathology at the University of Miami seeks a Senior Medical Technologist to work in the Blood Bank laboratory. The role involves accurate specimen handling, testing, and coordination of complex laboratory workflows to support patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification against physician orders and prepare samples for testing.
• Analyze test results, interpret abnormal findings, and compile patient data for pathologist review.
• Calibrate laboratory equipment, order supplies, and maintain inventory of forms and materials.
• Detect test inconsistencies, take corrective actions, and support coworkers in problem resolution.
• Perform quality‑control tests, record data, and ensure compliance with proficiency testing standards.
• Lead shift activities, train new staff on laboratory techniques, and finalize all pending work before shift end.
• Conduct routine maintenance of instruments and documentation of all activities.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in a clinical laboratory, preferably in a blood bank setting.
• Strong ability to prioritize simultaneous tests, including STAT work, with high accuracy.
• Leadership skills to act as a resource and trainer for laboratory personnel.
• Commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
