Senior Mechanical Engineer – Upper Arm

About the role

Rhoda AI is developing next‑generation humanoid robots and needs a senior mechanical engineer to own the design of the upper arm – the load‑bearing backbone of the robot’s arm.

Key responsibilities

• Design the upper‑arm structure, including shoulder and elbow joint components, balancing stiffness, mass, inertia, cost and manufacturability.
• Define and drive interfaces to the torso and lower arm, handling structural mounts, alignment features and electrical pass‑throughs.
• Integrate high‑torque actuators, manage cable routing, harness design and heat‑rejection requirements.
• Develop thermal management strategies for actuators and electronics, and validate under sustained duty cycles.
• Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, tolerance stacks, interface control documents and BOMs, and lead prototype builds and test campaigns.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead root‑cause analysis for hardware issues.

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (M.S. preferred) with 5+ years of mechanical design experience in robotics or complex electromechanical products.
• Proven ability to make quantitative engineering trade‑offs and define cross‑team interfaces.
• Strong background in structural analysis, high‑load dynamic systems and thermal budgeting.

Required skills

• Expert‑level CAD proficiency (Catia, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape or similar).
• Experience with structural analysis, FMEA and durability testing.
• Hands‑on cable routing, harness design and electromechanical integration.
• Packaging of PCBAs and electronics in constrained mechanical envelopes.
• Thermal design, conduction path analysis and validation.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, casting, sheet metal, 3D printing) and DFM principles.
