Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Spacecraft Machining)

About the role

Impulse Space is hiring a Senior Manufacturing Engineer in Redondo Beach to own all aspects of manufacturing spacecraft chassis and aluminum panels, set up machining cells and move products from development test articles to high-volume production. The role suits high performers of any experience level above the basic qualifications (Staff, Principal, etc.) and is presented as a growth opportunity.

Key responsibilities

• Own spacecraft component manufacturing from product inception and iteration to volume production, including tank skins, vehicle structures and large, thin aluminum hardware
• Work with CAM software such as NX and MasterCam, learning new software quickly
• Install advanced CNC machining work centers and develop processes for prototype, test and flight hardware
• Work with design and development teams to improve designs for manufacturability and deliver reliable, cost-efficient components
• Solve technical issues with innovative solutions and grow in-house production capabilities

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or a related field
• 5+ years of experience with CNC machines and CAM packages
• 5+ years in a design, test, manufacturing or production environment
• Experience on 5-axis mills and/or routers, and on manual and CNC mills and/or lathes
• Ability to pick up new CAM software quickly and manage large tool libraries
• Project ownership and teamwork in small groups
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, protected individual status, or eligibility for the required authorizations under ITAR

Required skills

• CAM software: NX, MasterCam, HSM Works, Fusion 360, ESPRIT, Hypermill
• Preferred: spacecraft component programming in MAX-PAC, CAD (NX or equivalent), GD&T, work holding design, Heidenhain, Okuma OSP, Siemens, Fanuc
• Preferred: fabrication tools, machine-shop setup, Python / SQL
