Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Composites)

About the role

Impulse Space is hiring a Composites Manufacturing Engineer in Redondo Beach to develop and manufacture state-of-the-art composite builds for current and future vehicles. The engineer works with cross-discipline engineering teams and outside vendors to deliver flight hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Own all aspects of flight and development composite parts, from process development through build, test and integration
• Handle composite material coupon fabrication, testing and allowables development
• Improve composite part manufacturing processes continuously
• Draft and develop composite process specifications
• Design tooling for composite part fabrication, shop aids and assembly
• Work directly with machinists and technicians to produce high-quality hardware
• Work with outside vendors and spec, purchase and implement equipment for composite fabrication
• Take part in development projects testing the feasibility of composite part designs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
• 5+ years of hands-on composite part fabrication using prepreg, wet laminate or filament winding
• Extreme attention to detail
• Ability to move from a quick, scrappy environment to a mature, highly controlled production environment
• Preferred: master's degree in mechanical or materials engineering, 8+ years of composite fabrication, 4+ years of spacecraft, aircraft or automotive composite design and fabrication, and 2+ years of full lifecycle experience with COPVs and COPV liners

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software and ability to learn new tools
• Preferred: experience with Siemens NX

• Stated pay range of $140,000 - $190,000 per year
