Senior Manager, Workforce Accounting

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Senior Manager to lead its Workforce Accounting function within the Corporate Accounting Operations team. You will own all numbers related to payroll, compensation, equity, benefits, relocation, commissions, contingent workers, and travel & expense, while guiding a team of accountants and staying hands‑on with close processes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage month‑end and quarter‑end close for the workforce portfolio, including payroll, accrued compensation, bonuses, vacation, severance, benefits, relocation, commissions, contingent workers, and travel & expense.
• Oversee stock‑based compensation accounting end‑to‑end: ASC 718 expense recognition, cash‑settlement matching, equity roll‑forwards, and reconciliation of equity accounts.
• Produce headcount and compensation reports that support close analytics and cost allocations.
• Ensure all close deliverables are audit‑ready with clear documentation and supporting evidence.
• Write, maintain, and evolve accounting policies and SOPs for payroll accruals, ASC 718, commissions (ASC 340‑40), contingent worker classification, and travel & expense.
• Review technical memos for US GAAP compliance and partner with Technical Accounting on new equity awards and compensation plan changes.
• Design controls, shape system integrations, and leverage automation tools (e.g., Claude) to reduce manual effort.

Required profile

• Proven experience building accounting infrastructure in high‑growth environments.
• Strong hands‑on accounting background with the ability to lead and mentor a team.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP, especially ASC 718 and ASC 340‑40.
• Experience managing payroll, equity compensation, and related financial reporting.
• Ability to write clear policies, design controls, and drive system integrations.
