Senior Maintenance Mechanic – Central Campus

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Facilities department is seeking a full‑time Senior Maintenance Mechanic to support the Central Medical Campus. You will ensure all building systems operate safely and efficiently while providing hands‑on technical expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general facility maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, HVAC, housekeeping, and landscape work.
• Inspect and keep all mechanical, electrical, and life‑safety systems operational according to standards.
• Direct and support technical staff, providing training and guidance to less‑experienced team members.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs and respond to service requests, hot calls, cold calls, and odor complaints.
• Inspect water and life‑safety systems, respond to fire‑system and emergency calls, and test emergency generators.
• Repair or replace ballasts, switches, motors, controls, lighting fixtures, thermostats, humidistats, and other equipment.
• Conduct minor plumbing repairs, soldering, brazing, and apply chemicals to air‑handler coils.
• Operate pressure‑cleaning equipment, lubricate bearings, replace filters, and maintain daily logs on major components.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in building‑systems maintenance and repair.
• Ability to lead and train junior staff while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Strong problem‑solving skills for complex mechanical and electrical issues.
