Senior Mainframe z/VM & Linux Systems Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mainframe z/VM & Linux Systems Engineer to join our team on a long‑term contract. The role focuses on designing, implementing and supporting IBM z/VM environments and Linux workloads on IBM Z hardware for high‑availability, mission‑critical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer and maintain IBM z/VM environments.
• Provision and manage Linux on IBM Z (s390x) virtual servers.
• Perform system upgrades, migrations, patching and capacity planning.
• Monitor performance, optimize resource utilization and support HA/DR solutions.
• Configure virtual networking, storage and security components.
• Troubleshoot OS, virtualization and infrastructure issues.
• Implement automation for provisioning, monitoring and administration tasks.
• Collaborate with application, database, storage and network teams.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Participate in on‑call support and production incident resolution.

Required profile

• 10+ years of overall IT experience with at least 5 years supporting IBM Mainframe environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• U.S. citizenship or Green Card holder (GC, USC).
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Experience supporting large‑scale banking, insurance or government workloads is highly preferred.
