Senior Linux Administrator

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Senior Linux Administrator for a team of three contractors who work directly with a customer across several projects. The main focus is security compliance, maintaining and renewing Authority to Operate (ATO) status, while also supporting migrations to new baselines, new technologies and health and monitoring dashboards. Applications run mostly in a virtualized architecture. The schedule is Monday to Friday, with start and end times agreed with the team.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems, including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for client/server/storage/network devices and mobile devices
• Provide Tier I help desk support, identifying, diagnosing and resolving problems
• Configure and manage Linux operating systems, install OS software, troubleshoot and maintain integrity, and configure network components
• Create Bash shell scripts to improve system stability and deployment repeatability
• Manage daily configuration and operation of IT systems, optimize resource use, and perform capacity analysis and planning
• Escalate issues to management and internal customers and give detailed analysis and feedback on escalated tickets

Required profile

• 9 years or more of experience as a Linux administrator
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Studies or a related technical discipline; four additional years of experience required if the degree is not in a technical field
• TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
• Preferred: Kubernetes, Docker and containerization experience

Required skills

• 9 years of Bash scripting experience
• 7+ years of Perl/Python programming
• 7+ years of Linux (Red Hat/CentOS 5 or greater)
• 3+ years with virtualization and 3+ years with Puppet 3 or greater
• Knowledge of web technologies (HTML, XML, Java2E)
