Senior HVAC Systems Mechanic

About the role

The Senior HVAC Systems Mechanic will ensure reliable operation of heating, ventilating, air‑conditioning and refrigeration equipment across Lehigh Valley Health Network facilities. This role includes overseeing capital replacements, indoor air quality, and supporting satellite locations.

Key responsibilities

• Adjust space temperatures and maintain proper indoor environments.
• Serve as Indoor Air Quality Officer and conduct HVAC flow and temperature analyses.
• Coordinate system shutdowns with facilities leadership and affected departments.
• Perform drives, combustion testing, air balancing, and distribution tasks.
• Maintain and operate chiller plants, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, exhaust and refrigeration systems.
• Investigate equipment problems, provide engineering analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
• Supervise preventive maintenance programs for air handling units, chillers, cooling towers, and satellite facilities.
• Execute snow removal, fire, and disaster duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with 2 years vocational HVAC training and EPA Certification (type I, II, III).
• At least 10 years of industrial or institutional HVAC maintenance experience.
• Physical ability to lift over 50 lb, push/pull up to 140 lb, and perform frequent standing, squatting, climbing, and overhead work.
• Strong sense of responsibility, initiative, and loyalty.

Required skills

• EPA Refrigerant Certification (Pennsylvania).
• Technical knowledge of air handling units, electronic and pneumatic controls, chillers, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, exhaust and refrigeration systems.
• Expertise in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, psychometrics, variable frequency drives, and air balancing.
• Ability to conduct combustion testing, drive testing, and HVAC flow analysis.
• Experience with preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
