Senior Engineering Manager, News Engineering
lseg
Job description
About the role
LSEG's News Engineering group is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to evolve its News platform, delivering enriched, structured breaking news with metadata, entities and context to customers worldwide in sub-second time. The role suits an experienced engineering manager combining strong people leadership, hands-on technical credibility and sound execution judgment, working closely with product, architecture and other engineering leaders.
Key responsibilities
- Be accountable for delivery, quality, reliability and operational outcomes across one or more News Engineering squads responsible for content enrichment and real-time delivery.
- Hire, onboard and develop engineers at all levels, coach them through feedback, career development and performance management, and foster ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Make on-call and operational responsibilities sustainable and well-engineered rather than hero-driven.
- Review and challenge designs for performance, reliability, correctness and operability, especially for content processing and NLP-driven enrichment systems.
- Guide teams in applying modern engineering practices: automated testing of NLP pipelines, observability of data quality and model behavior, and CI/CD for code and content processing.
- Support pragmatic trade-offs between speed, quality and long-term health, and guide responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.
Required profile
- Solid technical background in backend or platform engineering (e.g. Java, Python, Linux environments).
- Experience managing teams delivering distributed, real-time or high-availability systems.
- Experience with news or content-driven systems, including text processing, metadata enrichment, entity extraction, classification or other applied NLP techniques.
- Strong communication skills, especially around design decisions, risks and trade-offs.
Required skills
- Low-latency architectures and operational considerations.
- Modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, containers, cloud infrastructure).
- Guiding teams in adopting AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.
What we offer
- Anticipated base salary of $147,500 - $245,900, depending on location, and eligibility for an annual incentive plan.
- Benefits including wellness allowance, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, flex spending and health savings options, prescription drug plan, 401(k) with company match, and life insurance and disability benefits.
- Hybrid work options and a balanced work-life environment within a globally distributed team.
