Senior Engineer, Platform Infrastructure

About the role

Shield AI, a venture-backed defense-tech company, is hiring a Senior Engineer, Platform Infrastructure (L3) in Dallas. The engineer builds and improves the platform that the company's engineers and customers rely on, working within an Extreme Programming and Continuous Delivery culture of pair programming, small batches, continuous integration and automation.

Key responsibilities

• Build and improve the platform that deploys and operates customer environments.
• Develop infrastructure as code with Ansible, Terraform, Helm, Zarf, Big Bang, Packer and related tools.
• Improve Kubernetes platforms and their surrounding systems.
• Build deployment automation that reduces risk and removes manual work.
• Pair with other engineers to design, implement and troubleshoot platform capabilities.
• Write automated tests for infrastructure and deployment workflows.
• Improve observability, reliability, security and recoverability.
• Write documentation explaining why things exist, not just how to run commands.

Required profile

• Comfortable working across Kubernetes, Linux, networking fundamentals, Git and trunk-based development, GitLab CI, containers, PKI and certificate management, secrets management, observability, infrastructure testing and troubleshooting distributed systems.
• Comfortable learning quickly and becoming productive in unfamiliar systems.
• Values automation, small incremental changes, collaboration and continuous improvement over manual work and big-bang rewrites.
