About the role
The Senior Electronic Lab Technician provides technical and operational support for teaching, research, and student projects in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Reporting to the Director of Operations and Business Management, the role ensures lab equipment and instructional environments operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain, replace, and install teaching and research lab equipment and analytical instruments, performing preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Provide safety oversight for electronic and mechanical projects, manage data acquisition systems, and support student supervision in capstone design courses.
- Repair and diagnose equipment, locate replacement parts, and coordinate with facilities for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues.
- Fabricate parts using 3D printing and hand tools, create CAD drawings, and support students with design, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Source vendors, obtain quotes, and assist with procurement of new equipment and consumables.
Required profile
- 5‑8 years of relevant experience with vocational or technical certification.
- Strong mechanical and fabrication skills, commitment to safety, and effective communication for collaboration with researchers and students.
- Ability to work on campus in laboratory and classroom environments, including lifting and installing equipment.
Required skills
- Knowledge of mechanical/electrical testing equipment and safe lab operations.
- Proficiency in Arduino, Raspberry Pi, circuit design, sensor selection, and data acquisition systems.
- 3D printing expertise and CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Experience with MATLAB and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
