Senior Distribution Electric Engineer

About the role

Puget Sound Energy, Washington's largest electric company serving more than 1.26 million customers, is hiring five Distribution Electric Engineers for its Electric Field Engineering team, based at the Factoria and Kent offices. The role is field-focused and sits between engineering, operations, maintenance, construction and emergency response teams, supporting the safety, reliability and performance of the distribution system. Work arrangements are discussed in detail during the interview.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and modify guidelines for existing problems or processes, and prepare complex designs, standards, studies and analyses.
• Review internal and external technical documents and prepare cost estimates and project evaluations without direct supervision.
• Plan and develop project budgets with appropriate documentation.
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards and design, operation and maintenance requirements, and identify weaknesses in assigned work.
• Document and share work with colleagues, and communicate solutions verbally and in writing, including in public forums.
• Support emergency response work, including immediate and extended restoration after weather and other system failures.
• May lead or coordinate junior engineers, engineering assistants, field technicians and contractors on specific projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree or a Professional Engineer (PE) license in electrical, mechanical, civil or another appropriate engineering field; a PE license may qualify in lieu of a degree.
• Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, cost estimating and scheduling, typically after eight or more years as a degreed engineer.
• Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization and project management skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Desired: utility industry experience, a PE license, knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting, and experience on complex engineering projects.
