Distribution Electric Engineer III

About the role

Puget Sound Energy, Washington's largest electric company serving more than 1.26 million customers, is hiring five Distribution Electric Engineers for its Electric Field Engineering team, based in the Factoria and Kent offices. The role is field-focused and links engineering, operations, maintenance, construction and emergency response teams, supporting the safety, reliability and performance of the distribution system. Work arrangements are discussed in detail during the interview.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and modify guidelines for existing problems or processes, and prepare complex designs, standards, studies and analyses.
• Review internal and external technical documents and prepare cost estimates and project budgets with minimal supervision.
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards and design, operation and maintenance requirements, and identify weaknesses in assigned work.
• Document and share work to build the skills of the engineering workforce.
• Support emergency response, including immediate and extended restoration after weather events and system failures.
• Lead or coordinate junior engineers, engineering assistants, field technicians and contractors on projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or another appropriate engineering field; a PE license may qualify in lieu of a degree.
• Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, cost estimating and scheduling, typically five or more years as a degreed engineer.
• Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization and project management skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Safety-sensitive position subject to preemployment drug screening.

Required skills

• Desired: utility industry experience and familiarity with utility system codes and equipment.
• Desired: knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices.
• Desired: experience on complex engineering projects and a PE license.
