Senior Director of Field Education

About the role

The Senior Director of Field Education leads Teton Science Schools' Outdoor Learning School, overseeing multiple campuses and ensuring programs align with the mission of place‑based education.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute long‑term strategy for Field Education, translating organizational priorities into department goals and measurable outcomes.
• Lead, mentor and build a high‑performing leadership team, fostering a collaborative culture grounded in trust and continuous learning.
• Oversee operations, logistics, risk management, budgeting and financial performance across all program locations.
• Drive program quality, curriculum improvement, participant experience and inclusive learning environments.
• Expand partnerships, increase enrollment, and represent Teton Science Schools at regional and national events.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.
• Senior leadership experience in outdoor, environmental or experiential education.
• Proven ability to manage large, multi‑site programs and significant operating budgets.
• Strong relationship‑building, communication and decision‑making skills.
• Commitment to place‑based education, inclusivity and cultural competency.

Required skills

• Wilderness First Responder, CPR and AED certification (or ability to obtain).
• Experience developing and mentoring directors, managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Expertise in educational program design, instructional quality and program evaluation.
