Senior Design Reliability Engineer

About the role

Impulse Space is looking for a Senior Design Reliability Engineer in Redondo Beach who will own the standardization and implementation of its design process. The role leads cross-functional work on design standards, margining approach, configuration management and templates.

Key responsibilities

• Define and document design standards and best practices for structures, propulsion, avionics, composites, mechanisms and more
• Define and document the margining approach
• Own the design release workflow, from CAD to PLM to MRP and ERP
• Define the design review process, templates and milestones
• Create and manage tools for design-informing data, change traceability and key decision points
• Provide design-for-reliability guidance during design reviews and build planning
• Develop and implement robust design configuration management processes
• Use build and flight data to influence requirements, assumptions and decisions
• Act as specification custodian for design, margining, configuration and release processes
• Hold the line on quality standards, drive corrective actions to completion and liaise with build reliability, quality and flight reliability teams

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in hardware design and analysis for aerospace, automotive or high-reliability systems
• Demonstrated experience supporting design-for-manufacturing of builds, integration or test of primary structures and/or complex mechanical or electromechanical systems
• Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated root cause analysis experience
• Flexible schedule and willingness to travel as needed

Required skills

• Strong theoretical and working knowledge of GD&T
• Preferred: 8+ years of design reliability experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, aviation, robotics or hardware
• Preferred: familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001 or similar quality systems
• Preferred: reliability engineering concepts such as FMEA, reliability growth and Weibull analysis
• Preferred: experience with rapid development and prototype-to-production transitions

• Stated pay range of $150,000 - $190,000 per year
