Senior Data Scientist - Process Modeling

About the role

Amgen's Digital Process and Systems Analysis group within Process Development provides data infrastructure, platforms and analytics to support engineering teams, and supports digital process development for biologic and synthetic moieties. This Senior Data Scientist role contributes to the Drug Substance Technology organization by digitizing workflows to shorten technology transfer timelines and improve right-first-time success. It works on biologics drug-substance modeling and the digitization of tech-transfer workflows, supporting drug substance development, technology transfer, manufacture and life-cycle management.

Key responsibilities

• Leverage tech-transfer and process-modeling domain knowledge to implement digital technologies.
• Own digital products for tech-transfer applications, initially expanding digital process modeling for the DS network.
• Drive change management to integrate tech-transfer digital applications into product teams.
• Develop data products enabling FAIR data for tech transfer and NPI, and enable AI agent workflows for DST modeling assets.
• Work with digital product teams to build and integrate modeling assets into business processes for DST.
• Collaborate with engineers to identify process design improvements and make business recommendations (cost-benefit, forecasting, scenario analysis).
• Help establish a data science strategy covering process monitoring, data engineering, analytic platforms and analysis plans.

Required profile

• Basic qualification: doctorate; or master's degree with 2 years of data science or engineering experience; or bachelor's degree with 4 years; or associate's degree with 8 years; or high school diploma with 10 years of data science or engineering experience.
• Preferred: MS or doctorate in an engineering or scientific field with demonstrated data science application.
• Preferred: 3+ years of biotechnology experience (process engineer, scientist or data scientist).
• Preferred: chemical engineering modeling, drug-substance and tech-transfer experience, and experience applying digital tools to solve analytical problems.

Required skills

• Preferred: Agile software development methods.
• Preferred: Databricks, Python, SQL, AI tools (Chat GPT, Codex, GenieCode), React, and BI tools (Spotfire, Tableau, Power BI).
• Preferred: experience building AI applications for process development workflows and process modeling for cell-culture, harvest and purification scale-up.
