Senior Data Engineer

About the role

Atlassian's Product Data Engineering organization is looking for a Senior Data Engineer who reports to the Senior Data Engineering Manager. The role focuses on designing data architecture and solutions that support strategic decisions, working with business stakeholders to turn operational needs into technical requirements and improving system efficiency. It is open to remote candidates in the Americas.

Key responsibilities

• Partner across engineering organizations to lead and run high-impact, company-wide initiatives
• Mentor and upskill junior engineers
• Work with leadership, product engineers, program managers and data scientists to understand and prioritize data requirements
• Design and architect scalable, high-performance data solutions
• Build, launch and optimize efficient, reliable ELT/ETL pipelines for large-scale and specialized datasets
• Design robust data models optimized for fast storage, access and retrieval
• Implement data quality frameworks ensuring accuracy, freshness and trust
• Own the end-to-end data engineering lifecycle for the team's solutions
• Take part in the on-call rotation and partner with software teams to build self-service data systems

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent, with 6+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
• Experience building scalable data pipelines in Spark with Airflow or similar schedulers
• Experience with Databricks and its APIs
• Experience with large-scale batch and streaming data processing systems
• Experience working for SaaS companies and building self-service tooling and platforms
• Commitment to open source projects and experience with machine learning

Required skills

• Modern databases such as Redshift, DynamoDB, MongoDB, PostgreSQL or similar, and data lakes
• Python, Scala and strong SQL
• CICD tools such as Bitbucket and Git

What we offer

• Base pay for new hires depending on location: Zone A $167,400-$218,550, Zone B $150,660-$196,695, Zone C $138,942-$181,397
