Senior Associate, Compliance Model Governance

About the role

Coinbase is hiring a Senior Associate for its Compliance team to own quantitative testing, monitoring and data quality for the AI and statistical models behind its financial crime compliance programs, including transaction monitoring models. The role sits between Compliance, Data Science and Engineering, designing tests, building pipelines and dashboards that track model health, and making sure every model in production is defensible to Internal Audit and regulators. The company is remote-first but meets quarterly for in-person "surge" sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and run quantitative testing of AI and ML models before and after launch, including input data quality, variance and stability, and performance testing for agentic and LLM-based systems, with documentation that stands up to independent validation and regulatory review.
• Build and maintain monitoring pipelines and dashboards tracking model inputs, outputs and downstream outcomes (e.g. SAR performance metrics), using statistical tests to detect drift and degradation.
• Own data lineage for compliance-critical data, designing data quality checks and partnering with Engineering to trace data from source systems to control consumption.
• Write production-quality SQL and Python pipelines, fix bugs and lead data migrations supporting external regulatory reporting.
• Build detective monitoring scenarios that test whether compliance controls are working, and prepare testing evidence, documentation and walkthroughs for Internal Audit, model validators and regulators, tracking remediation to closure.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience in data science, model risk, quantitative analytics or data engineering, ideally in financial services, fintech or another regulated setting.
• Strong applied statistics background (hypothesis testing, drift and stability measures, sampling, confidence intervals) and hands-on evaluation of ML models, including LLM-based or agentic systems.
• Ability to write testing and model documentation that withstands independent review and to explain technical results to non-technical compliance stakeholders and auditors.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL and Python, including monitoring dashboards and cloud data environments such as Snowflake or Databricks.
• Data lineage tracing and data quality rule design.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Base salary ranges from $148,835 to $175,100 USD, depending on location; total compensation may also include equity, bonus and benefits. Candidates can submit a maximum of three applications in a six-month period.
