Senior Architect – Hybrid (Arlington, VA)

About the role

The Senior Architect will lead code enforcement reviews and inspections for government‑aligned construction projects, ensuring compliance with building codes, accessibility standards, and sustainability requirements. This hybrid position combines office work in Arlington, VA, remote tasks, and regular travel to client sites in the D.C. Metro area.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive code enforcement reviews, inspections, and plan reviews for architectural and accessibility compliance.
• Document deficiencies, prepare detailed reports with code references, and provide weekly status briefings.
• Interpret, explain, and enforce construction codes, standards, and regulations to clients, contractors, architects, and engineers.
• Perform pre‑construction site walks, as‑built/redline reviews, and witness code compliance tests.
• Assist in code development, provide technical advice, and support accessibility task forces under the government’s Building Code Official.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture or architectural engineering from an NAAB or ABET‑accredited program.
• At least 10 years of experience with the International Building Code and ADA/ABA accessibility standards.
• Minimum 5 years of people‑management experience.
• Extensive experience conducting architectural plan reviews, including accessibility‑related reviews.
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple work sites.

Required skills

• International Building Code (IBC) knowledge.
• ADA and Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) standards.
• ICC I‑codes, NFPA codes, ASHRAE, ASME, and ANSI standards.
• Construction project management software and mobile device proficiency.
• Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Project, PowerPoint).
