Senior Architect – Design & Construction

About the role

OBRA Architects is seeking a senior architect to join its New York office. The role bridges design and construction, allowing the candidate to shape projects from concept through completion while upholding the firm’s cultural and professional values.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design development and produce detailed construction documents for multiple projects.
• Manage construction administration, site supervision, and coordination with consultants.
• Conduct permit filing, code research, zoning analysis, and secure regulatory approvals.
• Oversee project scheduling, budgeting, and client communications.
• Mentor junior staff and collaborate closely with the firm’s principals.

Required profile

• Minimum eight (8) years of architectural practice.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (5‑year program preferred).
• Passion for authentic, knowledge‑driven design.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex projects.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of NYC Building Code and International Building Code.
• Construction standards and best practices.
• Project management and design development.
• Construction documentation and administration.
• Site supervision and technical detailing.
• Permit filing, code research, zoning analysis, and regulatory approvals.
• Client communication, contract documentation, and project scheduling.
• Consultant coordination.
