Senior Architect - Civic & Justice

About the role

NELSON is seeking a Senior Architect for its Civic & Justice practice. The architect develops solutions to technical problems and leads multiple projects through design, construction documents and construction administration, coordinating with clients, consultants and contractors. Experience with civic and justice projects is required.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in design-phase activities and coordinate with clients, consultants and contractors
• Prepare and oversee Concept, Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents, and oversee material research and project specifications
• Conduct field surveys, develop design concepts and advance them to complete construction drawings
• Review shop drawings, sign and seal drawings, review RFIs and prepare addenda and bulletins
• Attend construction meetings, make site observations, prepare punch lists and review and correct work against QA procedures
• Prepare zoning and building code analysis, and help submit drawings to authorities
• Maintain electronic project files, manage change orders and draft client and subcontractor agreements
• Support proposals and contracts, prepare meeting minutes and notes, and act as backup contact for clients
• Assist in secondary marketing, attend interviews when asked, and mentor staff including interns

Required profile

• Active California architect license
• Minimum 12 years of industry experience
• Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited university
• Expertise in building life safety and ADA codes
• Experience with correctional facilities, detention centers, courthouses and similar projects; municipalities, police and fire stations and other public works buildings preferred
• Expected billable percentage of 90% to 95% or more
