Scientist 3 - Translational Medicine (Multiple Sclerosis)
roche · South San Francisco
Job description
About the role
Genentech's Translational Medicine OMNI department in South San Francisco is seeking a Scientist 3 to join its Multiple Sclerosis (MS) translational research program. The role integrates human clinical data with molecular profiling and omics technologies to drive biomarker discovery and disease biology insights, informing clinical trial design and molecule progression.
Key responsibilities
- Discover and validate MS disease biomarkers and therapeutic targets by combining clinical sample data with molecular phenotyping and multi-omics approaches.
- Design and run translational experiments on clinical biospecimens (CSF, PBMCs, whole blood, serum) to study disease heterogeneity, target engagement and disease progression.
- Analyse high-dimensional datasets such as single-cell RNA-seq, CITE-seq, bulk RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics.
- Support biomarker strategy for MS clinical trials, including pharmacodynamic markers, patient stratification and disease-relevant endpoints.
- Work with Clinical Development, Bioanalytical Assay Development, Biostatistics and Computational Biology, and help write biomarker sections of protocols and investigator brochures.
- Share findings internally and externally, and partner with academic institutions and consortia.
Required profile
- PhD in Neuroscience, Neuroimmunology, Immunology, Functional Genomics or a closely related field.
- At least 3 years of postdoctoral or industry experience in translational research, MS biology or neuroimmunology.
- Hands-on experience with human clinical biospecimens and familiarity with their translational workflows.
- Working knowledge of biomarker development and the ability to link molecular findings to clinical questions such as dose selection and patient stratification.
- Strong written and oral communication, organisation and collaboration skills; relocation benefits are not available.
Required skills
- Multi-omics technologies and analysis of high-dimensional datasets (scRNA-seq, CITE-seq, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics)
- Independent design, execution and interpretation of translational experiments
Expected salary range for California: $100,400 - $186,400, with a possible discretionary annual bonus.
