Postdoctoral Fellow - Discovery Oncology, West Lab

About the role

Genentech's Department of Discovery Oncology, in the laboratory of Dr. Nathaniel West, is looking for a highly motivated and independent Postdoctoral Fellow. The lab focuses on discovering novel regulators of anti-tumor immunity, especially cytokine pathways that could support tumor-specific T cell responses while sparing the host. Fellows use in vitro and in vivo techniques, human genetics and clinical data to validate and target these nodes.

Key responsibilities

• Employ state-of-the-art technologies to explore fundamental cancer immunology
• Collaborate with researchers across the organization to accelerate research progress
• Use core facilities such as animal modeling, protein chemistry and computational biology
• Take part in the Genentech postdoctoral training program, including internal and external presentations and career development support

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Immunology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics or a related field, with a proven track record of research accomplishments
• First-author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal on at least one key research project
• Ability to formulate scientific questions and hypotheses, design and run experiments, and communicate results
• Ability to analyze higher-dimensional data
• Independent scientist with strong communication and collaboration skills

Required skills

• Knowledge and hands-on experience in immunology and T cell biology
• Working experience with in vivo models
• Preferred: experience with cancer cell biology, molecular biology, protein chemistry and cell biology techniques

What we offer

• Expected salary of $100,000 to $106,500, depending on experience, qualifications and location
