School-Based Mental Health Counselor (Full-Time)

About the role

This full‑time, W‑2 position provides school‑based mental health services to elementary students at Seventh District Elementary School in Baltimore County. The counselor works on‑site during the school day, delivering individual and group therapy, assessments, and crisis support while adhering to trauma‑informed, evidence‑based practices.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑site individual and small‑group counseling to up to 15 elementary students.
• Conduct mental health screenings, assessments, and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record in compliance with Medicaid, COMAR, and organizational guidelines.
• Collaborate with school staff, families, and interdisciplinary teams to create behavioral and mental‑health strategies.
• Participate in IEP/504 meetings, behavior intervention plans, and student support team discussions.
• Deliver crisis intervention, safety planning, and coordinate referrals to psychiatric and community services.
• Support compliance with professional licensure, ethical standards, and regulatory bodies such as CARF.
• Assist with audits, quality‑improvement activities, and orientation of new hires.

Required profile

• Current, appropriate mental‑health licensure (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPC) and ability to maintain compliance.
• Experience providing counseling services in a school or similar youth‑focused setting.
• Familiarity with Medicaid, COMAR, and CARF documentation and regulatory requirements.
• Strong ability to document clinical work accurately and timely.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% of time for inter‑office and site visits.
