Saw Filer Trainee – Manufacturing

About the role

Weyerhaeuser’s Montana Wood Products division is looking for a motivated Saw Filer Trainee to join the Kalispell Lumber facility. The role provides on‑the‑job training in saw maintenance and filing operations within a highly automated wood products manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the filing team in maintaining and servicing both stellite and carbide saws.
• Perform saw and chipper head changes, preventative maintenance, and equipment inspections for wear or damage.
• Support planer setup, head installation, and feeder adjustments to maximize throughput.
• Document maintenance activities, parts usage, and repair times using the preventative‑maintenance software.
• Apply basic benching, alignment, and internal quality‑control procedures.
• Contribute to safety initiatives and help implement process improvements in a fast‑changing work environment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong safety mindset, positive attitude, and willingness to learn skilled‑trade work.
• Ability to work collaboratively with filers, millwrights, electricians, and operators.
• Motivation to develop a long‑term career in manufacturing.

Required skills

• Metal working.
• Saw maintenance (carbide and stellite).
