Robotics + STEM Instructor, After-School Program

About the role

A New York after-school program is looking for a part-time STEM instructor to run 60-minute robotics sessions for students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The work takes place at the Calhoun School (433 W End Ave, New York, NY 10024) on weekdays from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, with immediate start available.

Key responsibilities

• Engage and motivate students in 60-minute robotics sessions using tools such as Scratch, Kodable, LittleBits, Typing.com, Codespark, Wonder Workshop apps, Sphero Dash robots and Minecraft.
• Guide students through STEAM activities focused on project-based problem-solving and creative game design.
• Document student progress, identify needs and communicate with the technology program director.
• Foster an inclusive, fun learning environment and handle logistics such as equipment setup and space organization.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's program; preferred: Bachelor's degree in Math, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• At least 6 months of teaching experience, preferably with elementary-level students; preferred: at least 1 year.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate young learners.

Required skills

• Good foundation in computer-based programming and familiarity with educational technology tools.
• Preferred: at least 1 year of teaching experience and a strong foundation in computer-based programming.

What we offer

• Pay of $25-35 per hour for assistant instructors and $30-40 per hour for lead instructors, depending on experience.
• Part-time availability, 2-5 times per week, Monday to Friday.
