Risk Control Technical Consultant – Field (Syracuse, NY)

About the role

Travelers is seeking a Risk Control Technical Consultant to work in the Syracuse, NY area. The consultant will partner with underwriters to provide detailed knowledge of account hazards, controls and management practices, and will evaluate how companies identify and manage their inherent risk factors across multiple lines of business.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a consistent field presence, spending 20‑50% of time onsite with customers and traveling long‑distance, overnight as needed.
• Partner with underwriting, claims, risk control specialists and brokers to select, retain and grow a profitable book of business.
• Conduct comprehensive risk‑assessment evaluations for diverse, moderate‑to‑high complexity businesses such as manufacturing facilities, large warehouses, multi‑location companies and fleets.
• Prepare technically detailed reports that clearly communicate risk assessments and recommendations.
• Report to the Risk Control Field Director or Managing Risk Control Consultant.

Required profile

• Experience evaluating hazards, controls and management practices for complex commercial accounts.
• Ability to travel extensively and spend significant time onsite with customers.
• Strong collaboration skills to work jointly with underwriting, claims and broker teams.
• Excellent written communication for producing detailed risk reports.
