About the role
The University of Miami/UHealth Central Business Office is seeking a full‑time Revenue Cycle Specialist 1 – Legal Billing to work remotely. In this role you will support the Compromised Settlements Unit by handling subpoenas, statutory attorney requests, and patient account billing while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and relevant statutes.
Key responsibilities
- Assist law firms, third‑party records retrieval companies, patient advocates, and internal departments with personal injury, workers’ compensation, bankruptcy, probate, and billing dispute cases.
- Process subpoenas and statutory attorney requests under supervision, generate itemized bills, and compile documentation for submission.
- Support patient advocate requests by providing accurate account information in compliance with regulations.
- Apply billing indicators, holds, and adjustments according to policy and regulatory guidelines.
- Bill appropriate payers (PIP, WC, commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare) in coordination with Billing and Collections.
- Communicate with law firms, patient advocates, and internal teams via phone and email to resolve routine account and claim issues.
- Manage Epic workqueues for assigned accounts, assist with workflow procedures, and identify simple discrepancies for resolution or escalation.
- Participate in settlement negotiations under guidance.
Required profile
- Experience working with Epic workqueues or similar healthcare billing systems.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, FDCPA, FCCPA, and Florida hospital billing statutes.
- Ability to handle confidential legal and medical information.
- Familiarity with billing processes for personal injury, workers’ compensation, and other claim types.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow policy‑driven procedures.
