Respiratory Therapy Intern - Per Diem

About the role

The UHealth System at the University of Miami is seeking a Per Diem Respiratory Therapy Intern. This position provides hands‑on assistance to clinicians while you receive on‑the‑job training toward becoming a Registered Respiratory Therapist within two years.

Key responsibilities

• Assist RRTs with electrocardiograms, stress testing, and lung capacity tests to evaluate cardiopulmonary function.
• Support bronchopulmonary drainage procedures and teach patients breathing exercises.
• Set up and operate non‑invasive ventilators, therapeutic gas administration devices, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
• Observe proper collection and handling of arterial blood gas specimens.
• Educate patients and families about conditions and disease‑management techniques.
• Maintain and inspect respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.

Required profile

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
• No prior experience required.
