Respiratory Care Coordinator

About the role

Kaiser Permanente is seeking Respiratory Care Coordinators to develop and implement respiratory care programs for patients with sleep disorders. The role involves direct patient education, equipment instruction, and coordination of follow‑up care across hospitals and clinics.

Key responsibilities

• Educate patients in classroom settings on various sleep disorders and proper use of home diagnostic equipment.
• Read sleep studies, provide preliminary diagnoses, and inform patients of final physician results.
• Instruct patients on therapeutic CPAP/BiPAP devices and other ventilatory support systems.
• Process referrals to sleep specialists and other health providers.
• Conduct follow‑up consultations with CPAP users to ensure adherence and refer to alternative treatments as needed.
• Collaborate with managers, physicians, and care staff to resolve pulmonary and sleep disorder issues.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of sleep‑disorder related experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care, Health Care Administration, or 4 years related experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Relevant certifications such as Polysomnographic Technologist, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Sleep Disorder Specialist, or Respiratory Care Practitioner license (California).
• Basic Life Support certification.

Required skills

• Knowledge of nasal CPAP and BiPAP equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret sleep study data.
• Computer proficiency for documentation and referrals.
• Understanding of federal, state, and local healthcare regulations.
