Research Cost Analyst 3 – Service Center

About the role

The Office of Research Administration at the University of Miami seeks a Research Cost Analyst 3 to safeguard the fiscal integrity of its research enterprise. The analyst will lead billing audits, rate‑sheet quality assurance, and compliance support for institutional service centers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine and risk‑based audits of service‑center billing to ensure charges align with approved rate sheets and are posted timely.
• Reconcile billed amounts with laboratory usage records, identify late or stale charges, and mitigate audit exposure.
• Audit cost‑pool inputs and tiered pricing structures to confirm accuracy, compliance, and proper application of internal versus external rates.
• Review billing data for discrepancies, issue formal audit findings, and coordinate corrective actions with departments.
• Maintain audit documentation for federal Single Audits and provide training on compliant documentation practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of four years of progressive experience in financial auditing, forensic accounting, or quality control, preferably in research, higher‑education, or healthcare settings.
• Strong analytical ability to identify inconsistencies across multiple data sources and communicate findings diplomatically.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Power Query and data‑validation tools.
• In‑depth knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) related to service‑center operations.
