Research Associate 2 – Infectious Diseases Division

About the role

The University of Miami's Department of Medicine is seeking a full‑time Research Associate 2 to support infectious disease research within the SOM Division. The role involves conducting complex laboratory experiments, managing study participants, and contributing to scientific publications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specialized and complex laboratory experiments, including specimen collection, preparation, analysis, and tissue culture work.
• Weigh, anesthetize, and handle laboratory animals for experimental procedures.
• Operate sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment and conduct photographic and dark‑room processing.
• Collect, process, and track clinical and behavioral data from study participants, ensuring accurate documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Assist Principal Investigators and Project Directors with multisite and single‑site research studies, meeting deliverable deadlines.
• Support Clinical Research Coordinators in scheduling and conducting participant visits, obtaining informed consent, and maintaining participant confidentiality.
• Prepare extramural grant proposals and contribute to the publication of significant research findings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a research laboratory or clinical research setting.
• Demonstrated ability to follow research policies, protocols, and ethical guidelines.
• Strong organizational skills for managing study documentation, binders, and regulatory records.
