Research Assistant – Part‑time, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

About the role

The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department at the University of Miami seeks a part‑time Research Assistant to support ongoing investigations into three‑dimensional chromosomal architecture in cancer. This on‑site position offers hands‑on laboratory experience in a collaborative academic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and perform minor repairs on scientific apparatus.
• Maintain, propagate, and bank mammalian cell lines using strict aseptic techniques.
• Execute cell treatments such as drug assays and genetic perturbations according to experimental designs.
• Perform routine molecular biology techniques including Western blotting, RNA extraction, and quantitative PCR.
• Prepare laboratory reagents, buffers, media, and manage inventory of supplies.
• Draft, update, and organize standard operating procedures and experimental protocols.
• Maintain accurate electronic or physical laboratory notebooks and study logs.
• Prepare correspondence, answer phones, and handle clerical tasks to ensure smooth office operations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Minimum of one year of laboratory or research experience.
• Strong learning agility and ability to adapt to new protocols.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Team‑oriented mindset with ability to collaborate with postdocs, PhD students, and faculty.
