Remote Controller

About the role

A fast-growing, fully remote CFO advisory, outsourced accounting and HR services firm is hiring a Controller to act as the key financial steward for its clients. The role leads and mentors Shared Services Specialists, Staff Accountants and Senior Accountants, overseeing financial reporting, compliance and internal controls, and takes ownership of the entire accounting function. It is a W2, full-time, 40-hour-week position.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of clients' financial reporting, compliance and internal controls
• Own the accounting function, including corporate finance, GAAP adherence and tax compliance
• Lead strategic financial planning, budgets, forecasts and monthly financial reports aligned to business goals
• Manage complex financial projects and interpret new accounting standards as a firm-wide advisor
• Mentor team members, drive innovation in financial systems and collaborate with leadership on new service opportunities

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• Minimum 8-10 years of accounting experience
• CPA highly preferred; public accounting experience highly preferred
• Experience as Controller or Assistant Controller in small privately held, entrepreneurial companies
• Strong client-facing communication skills and ability to explain complex financial data to diverse audiences

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite)
• Leadership and supervisory skills for a remote team
• Problem-solving, multitasking and advanced troubleshooting
