Reliability Engineer

About the role

BASF's Catalysts division is looking for a Reliability Engineer to join its Performance Chemicals team in Savannah, GA. The engineer leads site reliability initiatives and manages a multi-year reliability roadmap aimed at improving equipment availability, asset effectiveness, safety and lifecycle costs. The role works closely with Operations, Management, Capital, Stores, Procurement, contractors and expert services teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations for complex, recurring equipment failures, using Cause and Effect Mapping, Fishbone Analysis, 5 Whys and corrective actions.
• Develop and improve asset reliability and Mechanical Integrity programs, including RCM, preventive and predictive maintenance, risk-based inspection, corrosion management, structural integrity and pressure relief device compliance.
• Analyze SAP/CMMS data, work orders and asset performance indicators to find reliability risks and bad actors, and communicate KPIs and recommendations to leadership.
• Develop equipment, spare parts and equipment care strategies, and lead vibration analysis, ultrasound, thermography, lubrication, alignment and balancing programs.
• Create equipment standards, repair procedures, work instructions and job plans supporting MOC, maintenance, turnarounds and capital projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Reliability, Chemical or a related technical discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in reliability, maintenance, mechanical integrity or asset reliability in an industrial manufacturing setting.
• Experience leading RCFA investigations and working knowledge of RBI, corrosion management and regulatory compliance.
• Knowledge of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, motors and gearboxes.
• Certifications or willingness to obtain at least one: MLA I/MLT I, Vibration Analysis Category II, Ultrasound Level I, Infrared Thermography Level I, API 570 or API 510.
