Regulatory Engineer – Mining Equipment

About the role
Sandvik Mining is seeking a Regulatory Engineer to support the design, development, and compliance of its underground mechanical cutting machines across the Northeastern United States. The role combines engineering expertise with deep knowledge of mining regulations to ensure safe, manufacturable, and high‑performance equipment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide engineering services for the design and development of underground cutting machines, creating drawings and specifications using computer‑assisted design tools.
- Review and analyze engineering and design specifications for functionality, manufacturing feasibility, and safety.
- Serve as the expert on MSHA underground coal regulations (30 CFR) and relevant state/local mining equipment regulations.
- Communicate technical drawing revisions and regulatory requirements with cross‑functional teams (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic) and approval bodies such as MSHA.
- Support the Sandvik service network with technical training, troubleshooting, and complex issue resolution.
- Generate failure reports, conduct component analysis, and assist in compiling engineering data.
- Review spare‑parts recommendations and contribute to accurate Machine Life Operating Cost (MLOC) calculations.
- Develop and execute test plans for field and shop testing of new products and components, and support product commissioning activities.
Required profile
- Demonstrated expertise in MSHA underground coal regulations and related state/local mining regulations.
- Strong engineering background with experience in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems for underground mining equipment.
- Ability to produce and revise technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with cross‑functional teams and regulatory authorities.
- Experience supporting field service teams and conducting failure analysis.
