Registration Specialist (PRN)

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is hiring a PRN Registration Specialist in Glendale Heights, Illinois. The schedule is PRN with PM shifts starting between 12:30 pm and 9 pm, 2 pm and 10:30 pm, 3 pm and 11:30 pm, with alternative holidays and weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Medicare compliance reviews and issue Advance Beneficiary Notices of Noncoverage as needed
• Create accurate patient financial responsibility estimates, collect payments or set up payment plans
• Coordinate with utilization management on pre-authorization and contact insurers to verify eligibility and benefits
• Register patients for all services, collect demographic data and confirm insurance details
• Cover assigned work areas during shifts, arrange relief coverage and provide PBX switchboard support
• Manage communication between clinical, ancillary and consumer access departments, document patient and insurer conversations, and attend department meetings
• Perform cashiering functions such as collections and cash reconciliation

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (associate degree preferred)
• 1+ year of customer service, relevant healthcare or revenue cycle experience preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Preferred certifications: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) and Certified Revenue Cycle Rep (CRCR)
• Additional licensure or certification may apply depending on unit or state

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs
• Ability to operate office equipment such as computer, fax, printer and scanner
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of HIPAA privacy rules
• Advanced understanding of insurance benefits and hospital EMR systems
