Registered Respiratory Therapist – Per Diem

About the role

We are seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our team on a per‑diem basis. The role supports physicians and nurses in delivering cardiopulmonary care, conducting diagnostic tests, and assisting with research at the University of Miami.

Key responsibilities

• Perform cardiopulmonary tests such as electrocardiograms, stress tests, and lung capacity measurements.
• Conduct bronchopulmonary drainage and guide patients through breathing exercises.
• Set up, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas delivery systems, environmental control units, and aerosol generators.
• Read physician orders, measure arterial blood gases, and evaluate patient conditions.
• Determine appropriate therapy type, method, duration, and medication dosages.
• Educate patients and families on disease management, medication use, and respiratory equipment.
• Monitor vital signs and laboratory values during therapy and report adverse reactions.
• Maintain accurate patient charts and ensure respiratory equipment is clean, tested, and functional.
• Supervise and train students, respiratory therapy technicians, and assistants.
• Adhere to university policies and safeguard institutional assets.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Minimum three years of respiratory therapy experience.
• Current registration and applicable certification as required by the department.
• Ability to learn new procedures and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork orientation.
