Registered Professional Nurse – Full‑Time School Position

About the role

This full‑time, non‑competitive civil service position provides professional nursing services within one or more schools. Reporting to a School Physician or School Nurse‑Teacher, the Registered Professional Nurse ensures student and employee health standards, maintains health records, and delivers emergency care.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the School Physician with physical, visual, and auditory screening examinations for students and staff.
• Administer first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees.
• Prepare, maintain, and update school health records.
• Support school immunization clinics and manage related documentation.
• Coordinate transportation for sick or injured individuals to hospitals, doctors, or dentists.
• Inspect school facilities, playgrounds, and cafeterias for safety and sanitation compliance.
• Order, inventory, and store first‑aid supplies and health equipment.
• Consult with teachers and staff on attendance issues and communicable disease control.
• Prepare required health reports and records.

Required profile

• Graduated from a state‑approved nursing program qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse status.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York at the time of appointment.
• Knowledge of nursing principles, medical practices, dietetics, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
• Ability to follow technical, oral, and written instructions and maintain accurate records.
• Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with students, teachers, parents, and health personnel.
