Registered Nurse – Surgical Oncology (Per Diem)

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse specialized in Surgical Oncology to provide patient‑family centered care in a culturally competent environment. This role supports the oncology team by delivering evidence‑based nursing services and ensuring high standards of safety and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and modify treatment plans based on patient response and physician orders.
• Review and report diagnostic test results to evaluate patient condition.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary staff to develop and implement care plans.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, considering age and cultural factors.
• Administer medications safely, maintain accurate medication records, and comply with regulatory guidelines.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and team members while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with discharge planning and utilize resources to support patient transitions.
• Prioritize assignments, adapt to changing demands, and operate medical equipment safely.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff, providing feedback and guidance.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding assets.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred (ASN graduates have 2 years to complete BSN).
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
• Valid Florida Registered Nurse license.
• Current ACLS certification.

Required skills

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Florida RN licensure.
