Registered Nurse – Specialty ED Per Diem (Miami, FL)

About the role

The University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse to work in the Emergency Department. This role provides patient‑family centered care in a culturally competent, evidence‑based environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients and document nursing care.
• Report symptoms, vital signs, and changes in condition.
• Modify treatment plans per physician orders and patient response.
• Review diagnostic tests and communicate results.
• Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to plan and evaluate care.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Consider patient age and culture, providing appropriate information.
• Provide psychological support and nurture a compassionate environment.
• Administer medications safely and maintain accurate records.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and team members while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with discharge planning and transition of care.
• Operate medical equipment and adhere to unit policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
• Valid Florida RN license.
• No prior experience required.
• Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
• Ability to learn new procedures and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
