Registered Nurse – Operating Room (Per Diem)

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high‑quality, patient‑centered care in the Operating Room. This position supports a fast‑paced surgical environment, ensuring safety, compliance, and compassionate support for patients and families.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and modify treatment plans based on patient response and physician orders.
• Review and report diagnostic test results to evaluate patient condition.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans.
• Prepare patients for procedures, considering age and cultural factors, and provide psychological support.
• Administer medications and perform patient tests within scope of practice, maintaining accurate records.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and team members while adhering to HIPAA and other regulations.
• Assist with discharge planning and ensure smooth transitions of care.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff, offering feedback and guidance.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Active Registered Nurse license.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in peri‑operative settings.
• Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• RN licensure and competency in peri‑operative nursing.
